CORELAB
Clinical & Biological Data Processing System
Since 1999, FEI and the Johns Hopkins University Department of Pathology have worked collaboratively to build the Clinical and Research Laboratory (CORELAB) system in Kampala, Uganda. CORELAB is a clinical and biological data processing and management system. It tracks all information for patients, specimens, testing results, and workload in support of HIV/AIDS, TB, and other related research. FEI led the requirements, design, development, implementation, and support of CORELAB. We built the system to interface with many instruments, collecting more than 140 types of testing parameters, and managing and supporting more than 60 concurrent international studies. In 2008, FEI reengineered the CORELAB system from a client/server environment to an open-source, Web-based system using .NET and the latest Oracle database. FEI extended the functionalities of the CORELAB system to support International Maternal Pediatric Adolescent AIDS Clinical Trials.
