Hatem Ghafir, PhD, is the Chief Innovation Officer at FEi Systems. In this role, he is responsible for managing the innovation process within FEi that identifies strategies, business opportunities, and new technologies. He is responsible for identifying and leading the development of new capabilities and architectures with partners, new business models, and new industry structures to serve those opportunities.
Dr. Ghafir has more than 25 years of experience in IT management leadership, IT executive management, program management, consulting, and product development—including several IBM products. He brings deep technical knowledge, business acumen, and communication skills. He has been responsible for the full life cycle of health IT and education projects and has extensive experience in health IT project and program management. His experience includes product engineering, product development, management and IT consulting, software development, architecture, and design in highly technical environments.
As Vice President and Director of the FEi Long Term Services and Support (LTSS) Program, Dr. Ghafir managed the LTSS implementation lifecycle for the states of Maryland, Mississippi, and Illinois. He managed a team of 120 professionals through business development and the full software development lifecycle. Dr. Ghafir acted as catalyst for implementing best practices for software development, including using an integrated set of tools for requirements documentation, design specifications, configuration management, and testing.
Dr. Ghafir received a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Maryland. He received a Master of Science and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Cairo University. He obtained ITIL V3 Foundation for IT Service Management certification. He received Certified Project Management Professional certification from the Project Management Institute.
